Accomplished Interventional Neuroradiologist highly motivated to leverage a broad expertise in the field and a dedication to driving continuous improvement across all services to deliver immediate and measurable results within a new capacity. Rich, hands-on experience in the development, establishment, and enhancement of services for a network of dynamic medical and academic institutions complimented by a history of critical involvement and contribution within the neurovascular and neurointervention community. Focused on exploring affective solutions to enhance current best practices, improve standard procedures, optimize patient outcomes, and integrate new bleeding-edge technologies to strengthen service.
Professional Experience
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds, UK
Consultant Neuroradiologist / Interventional Neuroradiologist
2009 – Present
Drive continuous improvement across the Neurointerventional Service in Leeds by engaging with a network of skilled doctors and medical experts to explore current practices and performance metrics and develop new solutions, processes, and interventional procedures aligned with the core mission and strategic objectives of the service. Own full accountably for the successful stand up of new neurovascular, neurointerventional, and stroke services for a portfolio of client institutions. Play an instrumental role in the cultivation of a high-performance workforces of neurointerventionist, skilled nurses and radiographers through hands-on control of talent development including training, continued mentorship, and routine performance evaluations on interventional procedural assists and the investigation and diagnosis of neurovascular disease. Deliver strategic, results-driven leadership while designing protocols and local guidelines for the successful management of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, and SAH.
- Extensive experience in 3K+ aneurysm coiling cases and acted as the Primary Operator for 2K+ of those cases and performed 10K+ diagnostic catheter angiograms.
- Headed the development and implementation of multiple new interventional procedures including the highly effective utilization of flow diverters like Pipeline, Streamline, Surpass Evolve, P64, Silk vista, and intrasaccular devices like WEB, Contour, Neqstent, Pconus, Pulse rider and eclips in UK and worldwide.
- Proficient in wide neurointerventional procedures including balloon and stent assisted treatment of brain aneurysms, arteriovenous malformation embolisations, dural malformation embolisation, spinal malformation embolisations, Tumour embolisations, venous stenting, stroke thrombectomy, intracranial stenting, carotid stenting, Vasospasm angioplasty, epistaxis treatment.
- Proficient in Diagnostic Neuroradiology including a myelograms, spinal biopsies and spinal interventions, advanced neuroimaging techniques like MR diffusion, CT and MR perfusion, MR spectroscopy, fMRI.
- Played an instrumental role in the stand up and continued growth of a neurovascular service within Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, NHS Glasgow and Clyde Queen Elizabeth Hospitals, Glasgow, Royal Stoke University Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Sion Hospital, Mumbai, KEM hospital, Mumbai.
- Empowered up-and-coming neuroradiologists with the skills and knowledge to excel in the function by delivering a series of comprehensive instructional courses including “LINNC” ESMINT, SNIS, 3C, ABCNR, ISNR, and “Neuroradiology for Neurosurgeons” and ABCNR over the past several years.
- Revitalized and strengthened neurological service for patients of the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust by introduced MR and CT perfusion imaging, implementing new techniques to diagnose and manage vasospasm in patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage, engaging with neurosurgeons to establish a joint neurovascular MDT and clinic, re-activating a transcranial doppler service, and serving in a front-line capacity to perform cerebral angioplasty.
- Demonstrated a superior expertise in advanced neuroimaging including spectroscopy and diffusion and perfusion in brain tumour imaging along with a deep proficiency in aneurysm coiling, arteriovenous malformations embolisation, intracranial stenting, spinal interventional procedures, epistaxis and tumour embolization, and the utilization of both Onyx, Squid, glue and Menox.
- Achieved zero increase in complications while spearheading efforts to leverage balloon remodelling techniques to address 90% of aneurysm coiling cases throughout the practice.
- Selectively recruited to conceptualize, develop, and establish the dynamic Radiology Department operating out of the University of Bolton.
- Actively enrolled and local PI in multiple trials including PISTE, EESIS, VIST, GOSH, Lantern, DARS, IMA 950 glioblastoma, and VIST, TOPSAT, P64, Pconus trials.
- Chief Investigator for Presize neurovascular software trial.
- PI for PMCF study for Contour
- Pioneered the development of stroke services in close collaboration with the stroke network and other NHS entities.
- Interpreted complex information on aneurysm coiling into clear and concise booklets to educate patient and family members understand and cope with the illness.
- Functioned as the Primary Operator for 100+ carotid stenting cases
- Experienced in vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty cases.
- Operated as a PhD Mentor for two doctorate-level medical students involved in CT perfusion on brain tumours and proactively investigated the role of CTA and CT perfusion in SAH.
- Supervisor of PhD, BSc Intercalated Projects at Leeds university
